Oak (White Quartersawn) Hardwood Lumber

Quarter Sawn White Oak is the same species as White Oak but the wood has been cut from the log at a different angle (quartered). It is more stable than standard (flat sawn) White Oak and has a finer texture with a dramatic flaking pattern that runs perpendicular to the grain.

Color:  

Sapwood is light in color and can range from a pale yellow-brown to a greyish white. The heartwood may be either light brown in color or a darker brown with deep, golden tones.

Grain:  

Distinctive coarse texture and straight grain has longer rays than red oak.

Workability:  

Machines well, nails and screws well although pre-boring is advised. Since it reacts with iron, galvanized nails are recommended. Adhesive properties are variable but it stains to a good finish.

Physical Properties:  

A heavy, hard and very strong wood with medium bending and crushing strength, low in stiffness, but very good in steam bending. Great wear-resistance.
